For many years I have been a passionate language learner and educator with a dream to own my own business. While I'd dabbled in different ventures over the years, I finally found my calling as a Spanish professor. I spent 10 fulfilling years teaching all levels of Spanish at Santa Clara University, Go Broncos! I thought I'd spend many more years there, but life threw me a curveball in the form of two little ones who redefined my priorities.

 

Becoming a mom was transformative, and as my children grew, things shifted. When my oldest started public school, everything changed. The after-school options felt inadequate for our needs, and I watched helplessly as my child struggled to thrive. What hurt most? The erosion of the bilingual foundation I had worked so hard to build.

That was the catalyst for change. I realized I couldn't keep pouring all my creative energy into teaching other people's kids while my own child's needs went unmet. It was time to take action.

So, I decided to merge my passions--Spanish language and culture, my love for my children and other families needing bilingual support, and my entrepreneurial aspirations. That's how Experience Español was born.

Drawing on my Ph.D. experience, I reminded myself of an important lesson: with research and a willingness to learn by doing, I could teach myself anything. I dove headfirst into early childhood education, blending it with my expertise in language and cultures. Today, I'm not just building a business--I'm building a community where kids can thrive, grow, and stay connected to their heritage.
